Ulcinj will, on May 9th , be part of a major European celebration of cultural heritage – the Night of Fortresses, an event held at 68 locations across ten European countries. This year, a special program will be organized at the archaeological site of Šas, featuring a unique combination of music, tradition, and flavors that reflect the richness of the local community.
The culmination of the event in Ulcinj is scheduled for the evening hours, when visitors, starting from 6:30 PM, will have the opportunity to enjoy the tasting of local products from the region, followed by a concert of local musicians and performers of traditional dances. This part of the program highlights the spirit of Ulcinj and the Ana Malit area, celebrating authentic music, dance, and gastronomy.
In addition to the main program, during the day, there will be workshops for children and youth, creative painting of the natural beauty of Šas, an exhibition of works by young artists, and guided tours through the rich history of this ancient site.
This year, the Night of Fortresses in Ulcinj puts a spotlight on the archaeological site of Šas, which is not only a historical gem but also a place that connects nature, culture, and the community. Through the involvement of young talents, promotion of local products, and inclusion of sustainable practices, the event emphasizes the importance of preserving this unique area. Ulcinj Old Town, which in previous years hosted events such as art exhibitions at Servantes Square and Venetian Palace, now expands its participation to this significant archaeological site, further enriching the city’s tourist and cultural offerings.
The Night of Fortresses has been organized since 2022 as part of the European FORTITUDE project, and this year is part of the GIFTSnet project, funded by the European Union through the Interreg Croatia – Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro 2021–2027 program.
