Starting in March 2026, budget carrier Wizz Air will significantly expand its presence in the Balkans by opening a new base in Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro. The airline will station two Airbus A321neo aircraft at Podgorica Airport and introduce 14 new direct routes connecting Montenegro to major European cities.
According to Airports of Montenegro, this move marks an important milestone in the country’s growing aviation sector — and a boost for tourism and the local economy. Montenegro, long praised for its blend of mountain landscapes and Adriatic coastline, is now set to become even more accessible to European travelers.
From the end of March 2026, travelers will be able to fly directly to Podgorica from:
- Malmö (from €24.99, starting March 29)
- Paris (from €24.99, starting March 30)
- Hamburg and Maastricht (from €19.99–€24.99, starting March 31)
- The second wave of routes launches in June 2026, adding:
- Barcelona, Basel Mulhouse, and Rzeszów (from June 1, from €19.99)
- Rome, Baden-Baden, Cologne, and Ljubljana (from June 2, from €19.99–€22.99)
- Poznań (from June 4)
- Gdańsk (from June 7)
- Wrocław (from June 16)
Fares start as low as €19.99, and most routes will operate two to four times per week.
With this expansion, Podgorica becomes Wizz Air’s 36th operational base in Europe. The addition of two A321neo jets underscores the airline’s commitment to sustainable growth, using newer aircraft with lower emissions and fuel consumption.
For Montenegro, a country of just over 600,000 residents, the investment is more than symbolic. It positions the destination as one of the most connected small markets in Southeast Europe, giving travelers from Western and Central Europe easy access to Montenegro’s beaches, lakes, and historic towns.
As the country continues to rise on the travel radar, these new connections could play a key role in extending Montenegro’s tourism season and diversifying its visitor base beyond the summer months.
And once visitors arrive, they’ll find a destination that punches far above its size. Montenegro offers a mild Mediterranean climate along the coast — with over 240 sunny days per year — and crisp mountain air in the north, where skiing and hiking trails crisscross national parks. From UNESCO-listed Kotor Bay to Durmitor National Park and the scenic Lake Skadar, Montenegro combines the best of the Adriatic and the Alps in a single day’s drive.
Whether you’re chasing summer sun, autumn festivals, or winter adventures, Montenegro’s new Wizz Air connections make this small Balkan gem easier — and more irresistible — to explore than ever before.
