Montenegro has never been easier to reach.

Over just the last two months, airlines have announced a wave of new routes to Podgorica and Tivat – on top of an already strong winter schedule – confirming Montenegro’s place on the map as a year-round destination, not just a summer secret.

A solid winter 2025/26 timetable

This winter, Podgorica Airport connects Montenegro with 17 destinations in 13 countries, while Tivat – traditionally a purely summer airport – is maintaining four scheduled winter routes.

Most of Podgorica’s winter flights are operated by Air Montenegro and Wizz Air, complemented by strong Turkish carriers Pegasus Airlines and Turkish Airlines. Travelers can fly from Podgorica to key European hubs such as Belgrade, Vienna, Warsaw, Zurich, London and Rome, as well as to popular low-cost destinations like Budapest, Dortmund, Memmingen and Milan.

Tivat’s winter timetable is compact but strategic. Air Montenegro and Air Serbia link the coast with Belgrade, while Turkish Airlines and Air Montenegro connect Tivat with Istanbul. Winter flights to Tel Aviv are operated by El Al and Israir until January 2026, and FlyOne maintains the Yerevan service for part of the season.

Behind these numbers is a clear strategy: Podgorica is developing into a regional hub, while Tivat is slowly turning into a year-round coastal airport.

New routes announced in the last two months

The newest announcements significantly expand Montenegro’s reach across Europe and the Middle East.

Wizz Air base in Podgorica

From late March and June 2026, Podgorica will gain direct Wizz flights to:

  • Malmö
  • Paris Beauvais
  • Hamburg
  • Maastricht
  • Barcelona
  • Basel
  • Rzeszów
  • Rome Fiumicino
  • Baden-Baden
  • Cologne
  • Ljubljana
  • Poznań
  • Vilnius
  • Gdańsk and Wrocław

These routes come on top of Wizz Air’s existing network from Podgorica to Budapest, Dortmund, Memmingen, Milan and London, dramatically increasing capacity and choice for both incoming tourists and Montenegrin travelers.

Separately, Cologne/Bonn Airport has confirmed that Wizz Air will launch Cologne – Podgorica flights from 2 June 2026, four times per week – the first direct connection between Cologne/Bonn and Montenegro.

Aviation industry updates also highlight the new Malmö – Podgorica service, starting 29 March 2026 with four weekly flights, reinforcing the country’s visibility in Scandinavia.(Aviation Week)

Direct Tel Aviv – Podgorica

From 4 January 2026, El Al will launch a non-stop Tel Aviv – Podgorica route, operated twice weekly.

Montenegrin tourism and real-estate media underline the importance of this link: Tel Aviv becomes a new destination in the Podgorica network from January 2026, further strengthening winter traffic and bringing Montenegro closer to one of the region’s most dynamic outbound markets.

British Airways lands in Tivat

In late November, British Airways officially announced that it will start seasonal flights from London Heathrow (Terminal 3) to Tivat from 14 May 2026, operating three times per week during the summer season.

For Montenegro, this is a prestige route: direct service from Heathrow puts Tivat – and by extension the Bay of Kotor and the entire coast – directly on the radar of UK travelers, with easy connections from North America and other long-haul markets via London.

Iberia and Spain’s growing interest

Spain’s flag carrier Iberia has also confirmed it will launch Madrid – Tivat flights in summer 2026, operating twice weekly between 18 July and 15 September.

This follows the recent introduction of a Tivat – Barcelona route by low-cost carrier Vueling in summer 2025, giving Montenegro direct links to both of Spain’s best-connected hubs.

Together, these routes firmly place Montenegro on the Mediterranean city-break map for Spanish travelers and make it easier than ever for Montenegrins to reach the Iberian Peninsula.

What the timetables say about Montenegro today

Route-mapping sites and timetable aggregators show how quickly Montenegro’s connectivity has grown. Podgorica already offers direct flights to more than 30 destinations in around 18 countries, served by at least 14 airlines, including Air Montenegro, Air Serbia, Turkish Airlines, Wizz Air, Ryanair and others.

Tivat, meanwhile, has around 35 direct destinations, with a strong focus on seasonal routes to Western and Northern Europe, Russia’s traditional holiday markets now replaced by intensified links to EU countries, Israel and the wider region.

In winter 2025/26, Podgorica is connected to hubs such as Belgrade, Vienna, Zurich, London and Rome, plus key Turkish and low-cost gateways. Tivat keeps crucial links to Belgrade, Istanbul, Tel Aviv and Yerevan, signaling its shift toward year-round operations.

Why this matters for visitors – and for Montenegro

For travelers, this wave of new routes means:

  • More choice of airlines and departure cities across Europe and the Middle East
  • Shorter travel times, thanks to increasing non-stop options
  • Better year-round access, not just in July and August

For Montenegro’s tourism and economy, the impact is even deeper. The expansion of Wizz Air’s base, the arrival of El Al and the entry of full-service carriers like British Airways and Iberia all signal confidence in Montenegro as a destination that can sustain both leisure and business travel throughout the year.

Podgorica is consolidating its role as a small but efficient regional hub, while Tivat is evolving from a purely summer charter airport into a coastal gateway increasingly active in the shoulder seasons and winter months.

Montenegro: closer than ever

From London, Madrid and Barcelona to Tel Aviv, Malmo, Cologne, Rome and beyond, Montenegro is entering 2026 with a richer and more diverse network of air links than ever before. Whether you are coming for a quick city break in Podgorica, a winter escape to the mountains, or a summer of sun on the Adriatic, chances are there is now a direct or one-stop flight that will get you here quickly and comfortably.

In short: Montenegro is no longer a hidden corner of the Adriatic – it is an easily reachable, well-connected destination that’s ready to welcome visitors in all seasons.
